Telling Your Narrative: Empowering Your Voice through Poetry and Theatre

Utilizing the foundations of The Arts, the workshop will empower participants to creatively and accurately write their own personal narratives through poetry and theatre. Participants will be taught the "how's" of creating such narratives, the "why's" of their importance, and the "when's" of why these narratives are needed in today's society.

Founder and Executive Artistic Director

Gina M. Jackson, M.A., M.Ed., is the Founder and Executive Artistic Director of Cultural Noire Performing Arts Company (culturalnoirepac.org), a theatre company whose partnerships have included the National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC), Project1VOICE (NYC), and Malcolm X Library (San Diego). The National Endowment for the Humanities Scholar has served as a three-term Arts Commissioner for the City of San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture. Jackson has an extensive background that incorporates The Arts, Education, Community Development, and Fundraising. An Educator for over 25 years, Jackson currently serves as a Board Member for the San Diego Performing Arts League, Atlanta Black Theatre Festival, Rising Tides Charity/Atlanta, and Project1VOICE/NYC. Jackson also serves as a National Business Coach for Network For Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE). Jackson is a 35-year Ruby Member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., a Life Member of National Council of Negro Women, Inc., a Member and a Geo Coordinator of San Diego Women’s Foundation (SDWF), and a Member of North County African American Women's Association (NCAAWA). Jackson’s past Board affiliations include: President of the Friends of Malcolm X Library, Vice President of La Jolla Playhouse Partners, and Board Director for the City of San Diego Horton Plaza Theatres Foundation. She has completed the Museum Studies Professional Studies program at Northwestern University as well as Global Humanities programs at the University of Southern California (USC) and the University of California Berkeley. Jackson is currently part of the Global Studies Outreach Initiative at Harvard University, having completed her first study Summer 2022.
