RELAX: Your search for a new hobby is over! Let's learn CALLIGRAPHY and LETTERING!!

This workshop is for those who are new to calligraphy and lettering. You'll learn the different types of calligraphy and the basic materials needed to start i.e. pens, paper, strokes, pen pressure as we begin to practice the formation of making letters. The benefits of calligraphy are its relaxation properties and the calm you experience while practicing letter formation. You'll also learn the many free & non free resources to assist you in your growth. It takes 5-10 minutes a day to grow in the practice of calligraphy. Practice, practice, practice.

Workshop Objectives

  • Find calm and relaxation while practicing
  • Build muscle memory when tracing
  • Practice light and heavy pressure when writing
  • Learn the tools needed to start the process of calligraphy and lettering

North Country African American Women's Association

NCAAWA Member, Judge Committe Chair, Nominating Committee

Janetha is a member of the North County African American Women's Association (NCAAWA) and was the Lead Mentor with the Becoming A Global Citizen Mentoring Program for several years. Teaching was Janetha's chosen profession for over 37 years. She taught from kindergarten to 8th grade. During that time, she taught cursive to elementary student. She taught in Alabama, California and mentored teachers in San Diego Unified and Oceanside Unified School Districts. While at OUSD she managed an intern teacher program and paraprofessional teacher training program. Janetha taught adults at SDSU, National, and CSUSM. She enjoys traveling, relaxing in her yard while planting vegetables, painting, and practicing calligraphy and lettering. Janetha has been practicing lettering for many years and took a couple of in person lettering classes but mostly, she is self-taught calligrapher. During her travels she ziplined, windsurfing, and scuba diving the Great Barrier Reef. Family is most important to her, and she enjoys visiting family in Georga and Alabama. Her California family consists of her husband, daughter and granddaughter.
